Open with Notepad - Right-click menu option

If you like working with text files and generally like opening any information file with Notepad or your favorite editor this registry tweak will save you a lot of time. What this will do is add a new option to your right click menu "Open with notepad" whenever you right-click a file. Open regedit Goto Start > Run > Regedit and press Enter. This will pop-up the Regedit application (Registry Editor) that makes your life easier when trying to modify or tweak your registry. Modify the registry Now that you have Regedit opened navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\*\Shell Now that you navigated here goto Edit > New > Key and ad the key "notepad" (without the quotes). This should create a folder like icon in your left menu. Now click the new folder called "notepad", double-click the (Default) file and in the pop-up write: "Open with Notepad" (without the quotes). Next click "notepad" and ad another Key value Edit > New > Key and name it "Command" (without the quotes). Next click the "Command" key, go inside, and double-click the (Default) file and in the pop-up write: "C:\Windows\System32\Notepad.exe" "%1" Write exactly like this, INCLUDE ALL THE QUOTES. Now close Regedit and just right-click any file on your computer, you should now have a new option called "Open with Notepad". This could be extended to any editor you prefer and you can also change the text of the option.
