This guide is written for the low/middle websites witch offer quality content and play by the rules. Many new website owners ask for gold tips on getting rich with AdSense, you will not find this here because there is no such thing as golden tips. What you will find here is a collection of tested tips from webmasters based on reality.

You do NOT talk about AdSense

The first rule of AdSense is: YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT AdSense.
The second rule of AdSense is: YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT AdSense.

The first time we introduced AdSense on one of our websites we were very excited with the possibilities and what was going to happen. Imagine spending time creating quality content and being rewarded by advertising programs in CPC or CPM campaigns. I think you could also be very excited and wanting to tell everyone about your new money making scheme. Well this is a sure “DON’T”, as telling your friends about your system will eventually hurt you. Some could try to heart you by clicking on the ads multiple times and get you banned, as opposed to others that will want to help and click on your ads to earn you money. This is a big “NO NO” in the advertising world and you should be very careful whom you talk about your business. Do not try telling your users to click on the ads, this is one of the worst thing you could do and will surely get you banned from the program.

What you give is what you get

By providing your users with quality content, AdSense will provide you with quality ads. If your goal is earning 100$ from AdSense then you should write 100$ worth of content. It is that easy. Forget about keywords stuffing/optimizing and general tweaking of your content, if you focus mainly on providing general quality to your users, you will be truly rewarded.

Focus your attention to the users

This is your main purpose in the program, bringing general value to the web and getting rewarded. Put yourself in the shoes of a visitor. If he finds general value in your content he will surely bookmark your page and come back later or even talk about it with his friends or EVEN post a link on his own website.

Set your own standards

When you start writing content make a sketch of what you are trying to say and point out everything you want to give out, don’t get lost in the article. If you ever read a good newspaper article you surely noticed how the author gives out information and keeps the reader generally interested making him read to the end. This is exactly what you should also do, follow guidelines and you will notice that in time this will surely help in creating a better resource for your users. When you’re finished writing an article don’t rush on posting it to your website, instead take your time reading trough it and deciding what else can you do to make it better and easier for your users to understand. This things make the big difference in the long run.

Borrow ideas from the big guys

Check out the most important websites in the same domain/niche as you. Notice how they use their ads, the placement, the way they write articles but DO NOT copy - just inspire. Remember AdSense is becoming like a spam nowadays, it is like a trend, and everyone creates a site putting up AdSense wishing it would make him or her rich. If your users are spammed by the way you placed your ads or by the number of ad-units they will surely exit your website and never return. So try getting the best ideas from a number of sites and see witch work out for you.

Value your time, focus on the facts

You should NOT check your AdSense earnings multiple times a day; instead, you should focus on building quality content for your users multiple times a day. This is also a valid point for your statistics, let the numbers roll up for a while, focus on content and after a week or so check them out. You will surely get a greater satisfaction when noticing big changes and not every minute changes. Remember getting rich on the Internet is very hard and is in no way a short process. Try creating a community around your website first and then focus on the ads. Every successful webmaster should know these facts, always look ahead in time, and not count every penny you get from the program.

The purpose of AdSense

Remember the purpose of AdSense and these programs in general is providing your users with other ways of exiting your website and enhancing their web experience. Take his example: When a user enters your website and reads your content he cannot stay on the site for ages so he moves on. Now this is where AdSense comes in, it provides your users with a way of exiting the site by providing additional information regarding the content of your page. Every visit to your site also equals to an exit, what you should focus on is keeping users exiting on other ways then just clicking the close button (external links, commercials, references etc).

Technical tips

The sole purpose of this guide is getting a new webmaster acquainted with AdSense and giving him the general idea of focusing on content.
As things progress tough, you always have to provide some tangible element to every guide you write.

From my experience and others the single best performing AdSense format is the Large Rectangle (336 x 280) or the Medium Rectangle (300 x 250), floated left, over the fold, with the content text wrapping around it. The color format should be customized depending on your website colors but generally, this works best:

  • Links: #CC0000
  • Background: #FFFFFF (or your websites background)
  • Border: #FFFFFF (or your websites background)
  • URL: #000000 (or your websites text color)
  • Text: #000000 (or your websites text color)

Here is an example of a placement:

Remember AdSense is way of returning your investment in content (paying for hosting, news writers and candy) not a way of getting rich. If you are trying to get rich on the Internet with advertising programs then you should print this article and read it every day, focusing on the part that says “What you give is what you get”.
