Here is a simple way of creating real 3D sound effects and recordings.
By using a 3D audio effect, sound effects and recording techniques attempt to widen the stereo image played by a pair of speakers or headphones. This creates the illusion that the sound source is placed and moving in a real 3 dimensional space.
The simplest yet best method is called binaural recording. The technique uses to microphones placed about 18cm apart facing away from each other. This distance and placements simulates the positioning of the human's ear canals.
For playback, the binaural effect is reproduced only when using headphones (keep this in mind if you download an listen the mp3 provided below). It doesn't work on mono playback or on lodspeakers because acoustics of the room distorts the channel separation. Download a 3d binaural recording.
