After a long awaited period of time, Microsoft released Internet Explorer (IE) 7. I think Microsoft did a really good job with IE 7, including and improving features like anti-phishing filter and pop-up blocker. Older version of IE, 6, was suffering from security issues making it very vulnerable. Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 is available through Windows Update for Windows XP and 2000 Server and it also ships with Windows Vista. Going a step further with security, Microsoft improved IE by adding features like : asking users for input on the encounter of suspect digital certifications or installation of ActiveX controllers.

For me, the normal user, the most important feature has to be the new and improved user experience. Maybe the most talked about feature is the TABBED System Browsing, introduced by Mozilla, also available in IE 7 (Tabbed browsing allows you to surf the Web with multiple tabs open, but within one Internet Explorer instance). The new wave that's striving Microsoft is probably the removal of the old rusted Standard Menu System present on top of most Microsoft applications. The first program to make this changes and remove the old style menu was Media Player, others following fast. One experienced user could notice this things and enjoy them but there are old-style user who's soul purpose is using the standard menu and interface system. One can also quickly show and hide the old Menu System by pressing the Alt key. Microsoft can only wait and see how the community can adapt to its new Menu System and features.

The new features of Internet Explorer 7

1. Pop-up Blocker

Microsoft shipped IE 7 with a quite simple and useful pop-up blocker, build especially for the masses of browsing users. You can control the Pop-up blocker by accessing Tools > Pop-up Blocker Settings. Comparing today's websites and the past 5 years, I must conclude that this WAS, IS and WILL be a MUST for every browser out-there and Microsoft should have introduced it sooner.

2. Phishing Filter

Phishing is a method user by hackers to obtain sensitive user information like passwords, bank accounts, credit-card information's by impersonating a trusted person or company.
The new Phishin Filter introduced by Microsoft will help you understand witch web-sites are not safe to browse and point you to not access those site's that could steal your send sensitive information. By default Internet Explorer 7 comes with the Phishing Filter Auto-Activated and you should find no reasons as why to deactivate it. It will auto-notice you with icons and text when ever you access insecure web-sites.

3. RSS Feeds

Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0), is a feature that allows user's and Websites to subscribe to content sources on the web. Imagine you like reading Security News, and you visit like 10 websites per day; by subscribing to every websites RSS feed, you can read all new and fresh content from one interface, without the need to visit all the websites. The new RSS feature introduced by Microsoft in IE 7, is just a new way of bookmarking a website. The difference is feeds are separated from the BOOKMARK section and their content and links are constantly updated, whenever the source website issues new content. When browsing a website support RSS Feeds your RSS icon (located between the HOME and Print icons) will get activated (coloured). The active RSS icon means the website your visiting supports RSS Feeds and you can click the icon to subscribe to this websites feeds.
