#1 Logical math problem

Written by Daniel
Three men go to a restaurant for dinner. They eat up and call for the bill. The waiter brings the bill and its 30 dollars. The three men pay 10 dollars each and end up with 30 dollars and give the money to the waiter.

The waiter goes to the front desk and realizes he made a mistake, and the bill was only 25 dollars. He then returns to

the table and tries to return the three men 5 dollars. But he can’t split 5 dollars to three people so he decides to

give them each 1 dollar, that’s 3 dollars, and he will keep the rest of 2.
So each man at the table initially paid 10 dollars, then got one dollar back and ended up paying 9 dollars each.
So now do the math:

That’s 3 people * 9 dollars = 27 dollars + 2 dollars from the waiter its 29 dollars.

So where’s one dollar?

25/3=8.33
8.33 1= 9.33
9.33*3=27.99
27.99 2=29.99 which is 30$

its a trick question.

the $27 dollars that the men pay includes the $2 dollar tip. ($25 for the meal $2 tip).

25 2=27.

they each get 1 dollar back.

1x3 = 3
27 3 = 30

There are some very logical and mathematical ways to approach this problem. One of which has been shown by ce1904 above. But, while you did come to a conclusion.. I disagree with what you have found. You say that each man spent $9.33. How could this be true when each man contributed $10 and got $1 back in return. If I give you $10 and you give me a dollar back.. Anyway you look at it.. I just gave you $9. So while each man spent $9, coming to a total of $27 and the waiter keeps $2 for himself... this still brings up the question of "where did the other dollar go?"

Both peachse & ce1904 are just forcing numbers to meet the answers they want to get to. Tyler is trying to be kind to ce1904 with his words. Tyler is correct, he is the only one with the correct logic. Both of peachse and ce1904 logic don't even qualify to be considered as Fuzzy Logic, their reasoning is total nonsense.

Their Logic is similar to saying that since there were three guys, therefore:

3**2(3square)=9

9x3(guys)=$27 $3 (returned)=$30.00

This make the same sense as both othem above

You both need to get back to logic school.

This is not a trick question. Just common sense. The guys paid a $10 each,i.e. a total of $30. All get $1 back means amt/person=$30-$3=$27/3=$9. which means all of them together paid $27($25->total bill $2->tip). Problem solved!

The last sentence ("That?s 3 people * 9 dollars = 27 dollars 2 dollars from the waiter its 29 dollars.") is wrong.

it should be

$30 = $25bill $2tip $3return

gotcha?

The last sentence should be

That's 3 people * $9 = $27 (charge $25 waiter $2)the extra $3 from the original $30 is in the customers pockets as change, it got given back.

(3 men) paid $10 each
(3 men) received $1 return
...so
(3 men) actually paid $9 each
3 x $9 = $27
Waiter was tipped $2
$27 - $2 = $25
The bill was $25

The error is the $2 was added to the $27 instead of subtracted.

The answer is 25 can not be evenly divided by 3. Each man should have gotten 1.33. When you add .33 .33 .33= .99. There's your dollar they dropped a penny.

The last sentence ("That?s 3 people * 9 dollars = 27 dollars 2 dollars from the waiter its 29 dollars.") is wrong.

it should be

$30 = $25bill $2tip $3return

The 2 dollars isnt added to the 27 dollars because it is part of it each of them pay for the meal and the tip. Then the 3 dollars change is added to make 30 dollars. There's logic for you.
