Microsoft admited that the Live One security suite accidentaly erased some user’s e-mail’s stored on Outlook or Outlook Express.
A frustrated user commented on the forum: “Is there any way to recover the deleted files? If not, OneCare did more damage than any virus I ever encountered in a 30-year computer activity.” Some forum messages are positive and report that some e-mail’s data (PST or DBS files) can be recovered, but only if the application placed them in quarantine and not deletion. In a statement posted on Computerworld, a company’s spokesman confirmed the fact that “Microsoft is working in fixing a situation where the antivirus engine used by OneCare wrongly stores or moves to quarantine legit e-mails that contain PST or DBXDIN infected attachments.” The spokesman also added that this problem will be solved starting March 13, when the next updated is scheduled.
