1 Gbps for mobile users

IEE is working on WiMAX 1Gbps which could become 4G mobile standard, taking over all cell and wireless communication. The new standard is known as 802.16m.

They have announced that it will available around second trimester of 2009 and will be used for fixed and mobile connections.

Based on OFDM and MIMO techs, the devices require more than one antenna in the wireless device. This could become a problem for the manufacturers.

If you are wondering what those two techs are, Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a digital multi-carrier at a low symbol rate which uses a large number of closely-spaced orthogonal single-carrier modulation schemes going in the same bandwidth.

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) refers to multiple antennas at both ends of the transmission (sender and receiver), thus increasing available bandwidth.

Some operators in US mainly implemented WiMAX (like Sprint), but the progress in world-wide implementation is pretty slow.
