4G standard at 1Gbps to be launched in 2009.
The technology of 4G (fourth generation) mobile communication systems are projected to solve some of the problems of 3G systems and to provide wide variety of new services, from high-quality voice to high-definition video over high-data-rate wireless channels.
IEE is working on WiMAX 1Gbps which could become 4G mobile standard, taking over all cell and wireless communication. The new standard is known as 802.16m.
They have announced that it will available around second trimester of 2009 and will be used for fixed and mobile connections.
If you are wondering what those two techs are, Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a digital multi-carrier at a low symbol rate which uses a large number of closely-spaced orthogonal single-carrier modulation schemes going in the same bandwidth.
Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) refers to multiple antennas at both ends of the transmission (sender and receiver), thus increasing available bandwidth. Some operators in US mainly implemented WiMAX (like Sprint), but the progress in world-wide implementation is pretty slow.
