The initial date for other markets has not been established yet, said Sony.
Europeans will have three models available for them: NW-A805, A806 and A808. The difference between these models is the flash memory capacity: 2GB, 4GB and 8GB.
The 2" LCD display with a resolution of QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) is Portrait displayed somehow competing with the IPods Landscape display. Sony actually declared the display layout isn't really important; the video clips can be viewed in any mode.
The audio playback is established using the Sony developed ATRAC technology that is also including software for conversion of MP3, WAV or WMA files. Of course one could also directly load MP3's in the Walkmans memory but this project is energy consuming and inefficient. In Video replay the Walkman supports MPEG4 files.
The battery life of the Sony Video Walkman depends on the type of files. For example, in audio files using ATRACT files (132kbps) the Walkman can play for about 30 hours. Viewing video files the Video Walkman is able to sustain itself for about 7 hours on MPEG4 format at 768kbps.
The Sony Video Walkman is 44mm wide, 88mm height and 9mm thick weighting only 53 grams.
The NX-A805 model is listed on the Sony website with a price of 180E, the NW-A806 is 230E and the NW-A808 300E, when the Apple's IPod of 30GB is 290E. Comparing with the IPod based only on the price tag would not be fair considering the IPod has a wider screen and it is heavier.
