In this tutorial it will be shown how to create an Adobe Flash 8 cool text animation effect by using alpha property and the Free Transform tool.

Create a new document about 500x100 and choose Frame rate 30 fps.
Draw a text field on the stage using the Text tool from the Tools panel and write your desired text inside.
In the Properties Inspector set the following formatting for the text field:
Arial Black, size 40, color #000000 like in the picture below:

Setting up text in Adobe Flash 8

Go to Window>>Align (Ctrl+K), press the To Stage button and center the text field vertical and horizontal.

Using Align panel in Adobe Flash 8

Now insert a second layer and name it fade. Select the text field from the first layer go to on the fade layer, do a right click and choose Paste in place. Lock and hide the first layer as it is show below:

Select the text field from the fade layer, then right click and choose Convert to Symbol (F8), choose Movie Clip and name it FadeTextEffect.
Great job! Having selected the first frame of the fade layer go to the Properties Inspector and choose Motion from the Tween drop down list. Now go to frame 30 and insert a Keyframe (F6).
In the frame 30 of the fade layer do the following: using Free Transform tool from the Tools panel extend the movie clip like in the next picture:

Now go to back in the first frame, select the movie clip and in the Properties Inspector choose Alpha for the Color, 100%.
Do the same in the frame 30, but this time select 0%.
You have only one thing to do: unlock and show the Layer 1, then select frames 2 to 30 and press F5.
Great job! Now test the movie Control >> Test Movie (or CTRL+Enter) and see the result:

You need to Register in order to download the FLA file.

"using Free Transform tool from the Tools panel extend the movie clip like in the next picture" is not at all clear, you should explain how to use the tool to create the effect.

When I set frame 1 alpha to 100, frame 30 sets itself to 100.
When I set frame 30 alpha to 0, frame 1 sets itself to 0.
What am I doing wrong. There is no gradient.

effect works great, dont know whats up though. If i export as an AVI, GIF, Or MOV it works as designed... when i export as flash or preview it just slides the second layer to the left as a solid color. The Scene editor shows it correctly, and as i said if i export as a movie or something other than flash it works correctly... dont know if i'm doing something wrong here or have an improper player
